6th grade

Please note that all plans are tentative.  I may have to adjust the plans to meet individual or class needs.  Make sure you check your child's planner daily to see what we did in class that day.  Any homework will be circled in the planner.

For the week of 10/29/12

Monday

Today, we will take the Discovery Ed Benchmark test.  This test will take place in all Language Arts, Math, and Science classes.  This test will be used to monitor the students' progress throughout the year.  Please encourage your child to do his/her best on this test.

Tuesday

Today, we will have a special day.  We are having our Rachel's Challenge day.  Rachel's Challenge is a series of student empowering programs and strategies that equip students and adults to combat bullying and allay feelings of isolation and despair by creating a culture of kindness and compassion. The programs are based on the writings and life of 17 year-old Rachel Scott who was the first student killed at Columbine High School in 1999.  Please make sure you ask your child about this when he/she comes home.  If you could, please come out to the school tonight, October 30 at 6pm for our community event.  This is a very powerful, moving presentation and everyone, children and adults alike, would greatly benefit from this program.  It is a free event.

Wednesday

Today we will have a test on Synonyms and Antonyms.  They were given a study guide on Friday and told when the test would be.  This is a pretty simple test and the students did very well on their study guide.

Thursday

Today, we will work on prepositions and prepositional phrases.  They will do work from their book and workbook, all classwork.

Friday

Fridays will be our writing days.  Most of our state mandated tests are moving towards extensive writing (constructed response) that show higher level thinking skills.  Students will read a passage and write out their answers in clear, concise sentences.
